WEDDINGS

The "skirl" of bagpipes has been part of wedding traditions for centuries, but you do not have to be Scottish or Irish to add the memorable sound of the Highland Pipes to your wedding.  Anyone can include the distinctive flair of bagpipes in their celebration, making one of the most memorable days of a couple's life even more so. Some suggestions for how bagpipe music can enhance your wedding ceremony could include:

  • Playing inside or outside the church as guests arrive
  • Playing for the entry of the bridesmaids, groomsmen and ringbearer
  • Playing for the bride's processional
  • Playing a tune during the ceremony
  • Playing for the recessional
(march bride and groom out of the ceremony)
  • Playing outside the church as guests leave
I also can also perform at the reception if you wish - piping the bride and groom into the reception hall is a great way for them to make their grand entrance.   Listen to my music samples for some tune suggestions and I'll be happy to get together with you to find what tunes you like best. I take requests and will learn other tunes if you have something specific in mind.

FUNERALS

The sound of the bagpipe is probably most associated with funeral services and the song "Amazing Grace." The bagpipe adds a solemn and dignified touch to the funeral ceremony and can communicate a sense of closure. There is no doubt that the mournful and soulful sounds of the bagpipe release the emotions that are held inside.

With the nature and timing of this type of service I can be available on short notice. I have played at a wide variety of memorials including church services, graveside ceremonies, distribution of ashes at sea, wakes, and even at people's homes. I can play many slow-airs and laments and you can listen to a few of them on my Music Samples page.

OTHER OCCASIONS

Bagpipes can be played at many other types of occasions and celebrations.  These can include:

  • church services, installation of the priest or minister, or special anniversary celebrations
  • graduation ceremonies, or for education presentations at schools
  • St. Patricks Day celebrations
  • parties including birthdays, holidays, or just plain gatherings of friends
  • cultural events
  • business functions or openings
  • patriotic events
  • Robert Burns' Suppers

UNIFORM

I'll always wear a kilt unless specifically told not to. The tartan I wear is either Royal Stewart or Dress MacRae, usually with a white or blue shirt. If requested, I can wear variations of military dress, including full military regalia.  For formal occasions like weddings and funerals I will wear a white shirt and black tie with either a black jacket or black vest.

COST FOR SERVICES

Cost will depend on such things as requested amount of playing time, event location, and whether my presence at a rehearsal is requested.  Most piping jobs will cost between $150 and $350, depending on the extent of services you are requesting.   I can be reached at 386-843-3805 or gpepin@clearwire.net for more information.
